Hi-Flow
Air Filters for GM 6.5 & 6.5TD Diesel Engines
Copyright © 1994-2009
The stock paper air filter is quite restrictive and changing to a Hi-Flow Air Filter will allow the turbo to spool up easier and in most cases you will hear the turbo whirring as it pulls more air. To help the air flow better we also recommend removing the restriction in the fender, some call this part the "snorkel", even though it has nothing to do with water. Click here for info and pictures of the "snorkel" and the stock air box.
Allowing the engine to breathe better will add efficiency and performance and should help increase mpg, provided you maintain the same driving habits, but sometimes it's hard to resist using the added power.
From 1978 to 1998 Jim used the K&N washable air filters which are the oil impregnated cotton gauze (OICG) type. We found that were good for performance applications, but near 1998 other companies have produced similar filters, and we found one company who makes very high quality filters and met with them to discuss our needs. These filters in our expert opinion are much better quality, the deeper pleat design creates more surface air area which allows greater flow and as the filter gets dirty the flow and filtration stays good longer.
If you are considering any "FOAM" type filters. Click here to read the WARNING about foam air filters.
With many other filters it's all too common for the seal to deform allowing unfiltered air to pass by the filter. We find the seal on these to be much better quality and have not seen any indication of possible deformation.
Above picture shows the K&N filter on the top, (black) and the one we
offer below (red), notice the deformation of the K&N and lack of squareness.
The photo above shows the our red filter (red) note the nice rectangular shape, straight sides then how this compares to the compared to the other (black), note the mis-shaped look of the seal.
The photo above the wire mesh on the other filter is not properly covered by the seal material, note the more exacting shape of our filter.
In our testing after installing our filters I noticed an immediate power gain and could hear and notice the turbo spool up faster.
Filter colors or appearance may vary from those pictured, due to mfg.

Note: We recommend removing the air box completely whenever replacing ANY 6.5 turbo diesel FLAT air filters to make sure the box is clean and the filter is fitting correctly, this is especially important with other make/brand filters including GM / AC Delco
NOTE: It is Highly Recommended that the PDC/PMD Remote Package and OPS SAVER be added for RELIABILITY to ANY GM 6.5 Liter Electronic Fuel Injected Diesel engines (even STOCK engines) for RELIABILITY, before (or at the same time) as adding ANY power upgrades.
